We write a lot. I mean, I knew that I wrote a lot. But a slew of them are shite. But when we get in a room, there’s a lot of nonsense that happens and song is slapped down on the table with fervor. “Papercuts (I Want To Die)” is a progression brought up by Sam then mixed into oblivion by the rest of us. We’re pretty content and hope to share it on the 6th. Our dates for...

Looks like we’re going to be busy. We just got a line from our pal Jon in Amos the Transparent to share the stage with them this Friday night (the 24th, I think) at Mavericks with Cavalier. That’ll be fun. Then, on the 31st we’ll be supporting “Feed The Children” as part of a charity event being held at Babylon here in Ottawa. More good times. Following that,...

I’ve never seen Blue Rodeo before. I’ve been calling us ‘the Blue Rodeo for our generation’ - yes, very pretentious. But come on - heartfelt lyrics from a dreamy frontman? Kidding. Can’t wait to see Cuddy and the boys, though.

I ate vegetarian lasagna with the guys in the National tonight. Ok, sure, they were just at surrounding tables, but hey, they’re nice guys. Our set went great. The sound was amazing, and, from what I heard, the theatre was packed (I couldn’t see shit past the front rown, who were all smiles). First Bluesfest. Pretty great feeling playing it after growing up in Ottawa. Oh, the new...

Joel and I are having a pre-Bluesfest slumber party. You’re all invited.

We’re playing Bluesfest tomorrow. That’s kind of exciting. New name, some new songs, same sweat. Luck.

I’m wondering if kids from all over flock to Ottawa like they do for Bonnaroo and whatnot? I mean, just look at today: Balconies, Land of Talk, Sunparlour Players, Jenn Grant, Neko Case, Broken Social Scene, Octoberman, Eamon McGrath. Pretty solid day, and for only $45 (or free if you’re a) playing the fest and b) do design work for a record label). Our slot’s quickly...

Ottawa’s Bluesfest is going to be a nice little rebirth for me. Just being so buried in my own shit, it’s hard to remember how good just watching a good show can be. Last night, I saw my pals open the festival and loved seeing them on the big stage with the sun going down. Then I sauntered over to see the Black Keys, and I need to head back to the festival grounds today to find my face...

“Shit buttons.” Sometimes the average swear word just doesn’t cut it. While doing some work this afternoon, this gem popped out of my mouth. This has been your daily curse word. Thanks. Joel started his bass lines today. Seven tracks down. Machine. Bass machine. Drums have been laid down to 1/4 inch tape. We don’t fuck around.

Spent the weekend in an empty apartment. Sitting. Apartment sitting. Listened to a bunch of Sera Cahoone and fell in love and broke up with myself dozens of times. Polished off a few bottles. Microwaved meals. Walked with cat hair on my feet. Bought mouth harps and discovered the majesty that is playing a harmonica that’s in the right key. I learned about American geography. And now...

It has to start again. Catharsis. A weekend in with beers and the Office. Seasons 2-3, I think. Wasted weekend? No. Necessary. Bought mouth harps. G and C. Bought Big Rock. Traditional. Tasty. Quote from outside “Do you pluck your eyebrows?” “No…” “But they’re separated…” Weird window conversations. Updates as they develop.
